Croatia belongs to the most indented Mediterranean countries, with its approximately 1,244 islands adorning the Croatian Adriatic coast. It is divided into 78 islands, 524 small islands and 642 rocks. A total of 47 islands are inhabited. Croatia's islands are the second largest of the islands of the Mediterranean. Inhabited is also Peljesac peninsula. According to the census of 2011 it comes to population growth in these areas,with a total of 7,886 inhabitants compared to the census of 2011. Significant is the fact that the islands comprise of about 3259 square kilometers, almost 5.8% of Croatian mainland. Krk and Cres islands are considered the largest of the islands located in the northern Adriatic, and Hvar and Brac belong to the largest islands located in the central Adriatic.
