Molat

Molat is an island located in the northern part of the archipelago of Zadar. The fifth biggest inhabited island measures 22.82 square kilometers. It consists of a port Zapuntel, a place Molat and a bay Brgulja which is the largest bay on the island and is also known as Molašćica. The northernmost point of the island is Rt Gomilica , while the southernmost is Rt Žaplo. Island is Dinarisch or direction northwest – Southeast oriented. The shape of the island is similar to the letter Y. The name of the island comes from the Latin word Mel or honey, Latin " Melatus ", which is translated as sweet as honey. Molat, together with Škard Tun Veli and smaller islands do Molatska island group. It was first mentioned in the 7. Century. Even in the distant past the island was known for its production of honey. Population worked in various activities such as fishing, dairy products, wine production and tourism .
