Korčula - Račišće

Račišće is located in the northern part of the island of Korcula, and was founded in the 17th century. According to the census, this place has 600 villagers. In the distant past, the main industry was fishing, animal husbandry and agriculture, whereas nowadays the inhabitants are engaged in maritime affairs. Well known is the church of Bogorodica from the 1682nd, and the present church of Sv. Nikola was built in the 19th century. This is the only place on the island where stokavian is considered a major dialect while the rest of the island speaks chakavian dialect. In the past Racisce had a large fleet, and marine was the main activity. Tourists can relax in the beautiful bays and beaches, and in particular is Račišće ideal for people who want a peaceful vacation.
