At the northern shoreline of island Brač there is the settlement and port Pučišća. This little place is known for its stonemason tradition and it is important to note that the stone from nearby quarry has been built-in in White House in Washington. Name Pučišća originates from the latin term peteus which means fountain. It once indicated rich drinking water sources that were used for feeding livestock. In Stipanska port is located cemetery and the early christian church of Sveti Stjepan with a baptistery. In the late 11th century, the church has undergone major changes when the Benedictines built monastery next to the church where also is located the tomb of significant Dalmatian sculptor Vale Micheli. In Pucisca were built during the Middle Ages as many as 13 towers and it is therefore called the settlement "Port Tower" of which we should mention the most valuable Žuvetića tower. 1516th opened the first private school, the first reading room, which is also the first that was ...established on the island.. The crystal-clear sea in Pučišće is giving tourists a wonderful pleasure of bathing, and for even better holiday atmosphere there are organic food specialties from Brac, Brac lamb, local wine and excellent olive oil. Pučišća is also the perfect place to relax away from the city noise, the noise of cars and people and, above all, beautiful nature with many beautiful beaches in the area and if you're a fan of recreation, there are ideal conditions for you to biking, windsurfing, paragliding, skiing and scuba diving.
