Brač - Pučišća

At the northern shoreline of island Brač there is the settlement and port Pučišća. This little place is known for its stonemason tradition and it is important to note that the stone from nearby quarry has been built-in in White House in Washington. Name Pučišća originates from the latin term peteus which means fountain. It once indicated rich drinking water sources that were used for feeding livestock. In Stipanska port is located cemetery and the early christian church of Sveti Stjepan with a baptistery. In the late 11th century, the church has undergone major changes when the Benedictines built monastery next to the church where also is located the tomb of significant Dalmatian sculptor Vale Micheli.
