Sobra is located on the north side of the island Mljet. It is the main port of the island that is evolving every day and has about 70 permanent residents. Since the second half of the 19th century this small village was inhabited, and it should be noted that in the past it had a very important significance. At the present time very developed are tourism and trade, and because of its proximity to Blatina it has its own water supply network and water well. According to the census in 2001. Sobra has 102 inhabitants. It constantly increases in number of population, but there were times when it did not have any single resident. In 1880th has been built a dock, and today it is the port where many boats and catamarans dock. Sobra is located outside the National Park Mljet, and the tourists can without doubt refresh in the restaurants that offer a rich gastronomic offer. In addition to tourism and the economy residents are engaged in viticulture and agriculture, and it is very well connected w...ith Dubrovnik and ferries are daily carrying passengers. In the center there is a grocery shop that contains everything you need for a holiday in the resort. In the distant past, well known was special type of Bracero named Mljetska barka and Mljetsko jedro. Sobra has not many cultural and historical sites, and most locals live a quiet lifestyle with fresh air and clear water. It contains no beach, but the eventual tourists can swim from the rocks along the shore. During the summer months, it is linked by ferry with Prapratno, and nearby are Saplunara which is located only 16 kilometers away and Pomena and Polača who make important input parts to the National Park Mljet. Any foreign and local tourists can find accommodation in luxurious family suites, private rooms and boarding houses at very affordable price rates. Known are apartments Sanda which offer quality vacation with barbecue, fireplace, terraces and other necessary facilities for comfortable and quality accommodation.
