Grohote is the largest and oldest settlement on the island of Solta , which is located at the intersection of Šoltas main road , and the sea is 2 km away. In Grohote the locals are mainly engaged in trade , oil-production , bakery , olive growing and more recently tourism . It is economic and administration center of the island , and its residents have worked in the past as fishermen , farmers and lime makers . Many well-known Croatian artists such as Marin Kalajžić , Vicko Buktenica and Dinko Sule grew up in this small village . Well known are many monuments such as the Church of Sv. Stjepan, the church of Sv. Mihovil and the Sv. Gospe Lurdske. Important are also many archaeological finds such as ancient sarcophagi, the remains of the basilica , chapel wall , and ancient sarcophagi in front of the parish church . In Grohote you can rest peacefully and that is why this place is not ideal for people and tourists who want to have fun. For those who love a good time and engage in recre...ation during the holidays it is definitely recommended to visit Mljet , Krka and Kornati . This quiet place does not offer rich nightlife and tourists who want to have fun can go to the various discos and bars that are located on nerby islands. The climate is moderate , which works great on agriculture , and certainly it should be noted that this is the perfect place for elderly tourists. It is interesting that in the famous series of Croatia Velo Misto part of the filming has been done in Grohote , which has historically shown a way of life on the island . It should be noted that the inhabitants of this place are still engaged in the production of Solta's lime , and many men are avid sailors . Clean air , lush vegetation , growing figs and cherry attract older tourists , and allow them a quality vacation without the crowds and the noise . They were especially attracted to the history of this place , and given the fact that the sea is very close , you do not have to take a long walk to the beach to refresh as soon as possible and enjoy the sun .
