Preko is a town and harbor on the island of Ugljan in the Zadar district and it has a population of 1278 inhabitants.  Preko is the administrative center of the island of Ugljan, with the typical Dalmatian architecture and numerous villas of the patrician families. You feel the best Mediterranean atmosphere by a stroll along the promenade Lungomare or on one of the terraces overlooking Zadar Channel.  Preko is the best starting point for a trip to Sveti Mihovil (265 m above sea level), which is reached by three kilometers long asphalt road. Of the fortress are more than 200 islands of the Zadar archipelago and Kornati National Park visible. Located only 80 meters from Preko the is idyllic islet Galevac (Školjić), covered with lush Mediterranean vegetation in which is hidden a Franciscan monastery from the 15th Century. It is a popular place to swim as well as sandy beach "Jaz" , which has blue flag - a symbol of clean sea . On the east side of the city, near the ferry terminal,... is located Romanesque church of St. Ivan from the 11. Century. Ugljan has been inhabited since the Neolithic Age, what the remains of about 3,000 years old stone proves. The island is first mentioned in the written documents by the Pliny which wrote that opposite of Zadar an island called "Lissa" is located. The first men which inhabited the Ugljan were Illyrian tribe Liburns in the fourth century B.C. and they lived in a village on the hill Čelinjak. The walls and the remains of a number of rectangular Liburn houses remain preserved up to now. Monuments from the early ancient times have been preserved in Muline: Villa Rustica , Late Antiquity Mausoleum, the remains of an early Christian Basilica and a listed oil mill from the 1. Century  in Mulino cove. The village has several summer houses of Zadars noble families. To highlight is the Califfi Castle which is closely followed by the the castle of the family Lipeus in Batalaža and others.
