Pomena is located on the northwest side of the island Mljet. With its 50 inhabitants this fishing village is today the center of the whole tourist attractions around the island. The town was founded as a fishing port and its economy was based on fishing but also on agriculture because of the proximity of fertile fields. During the 20th century it comes to the development of tourism and the construction of the hotel which attracts many foreign and local tourists. Also important was camping Sikjerica which received a large number of tourists, but given that it was located in a national park Mljet, it was closed because of the possibility of forest fires. Unfortunately Pomena is not by any shipping line connected with Dubrovnik, but during the summer months here dock hydrofoils from Split, Korcula and Dubrovnik. Tourists are really enthusiastic about this little place, and the thick pine forest and Islands of Galicia, Pomeštak and Crna Seka are important for rich Mediterranean atmosphere.... Tourists can also find accomodation at the Hotel Odyssey, which offers many rich sports and recreational facilities. It should be noted that the course of history in this area found a few remains of Roman architecture, and this is evidence of settlement since ancient times. The foundations of today's settlement gave the fishermen, who were here guarding their nets and fishing tools. The original inhabitants come from Govedari, and established a fishing cooperative in this small village. Pomena today includes several restaurants and cafes, souvenir shops, and a travel agency can find many useful information that foreign tourists should definitely have. Only 15 minutes away are located Veliko i malo jezero which can be reached by foot. Promena is a place located far from the public eye and is ideal for summer tourists who want a peaceful holiday without crowds, noise and air pollution. Given that the Pomeni is very small, night bars and clubs can be found in the city of Mljet where you can enjoy entertainment, rich cuisine and excellent vine.
