Vela Luka is a small Mediterranean town situated on the western part of the island Korčula in the bay which is 9.2 kilometers long. This is the most developed place on Croatian islands, because the inhabitants are most of the time engaged in activities such as fishing, agriculture, shipbuilding, shipping, and more recently, tourism. It is well connected with Split, Hvar and Lastovo, which can be reached by ferry. It should be noted that the orientation to shipbuilding industry was very important for the education of young people in technical professions. Vela Luka contains the famous archaeological site of Vela Cave, which belongs to the most important archaeological findings throughout Europe. What lies beneath its surface makes it unique, and considering that the people in it lived 20,000 years ago there was found a piece of art, namely a small sculpture of a horse. During the summer season the cave can be visited by tourists. Of particular importance is the Gradina bay, which is lo...cated within the Vela Luka Bay, and because of the sandy bottom and partially sandy coastline, is the perfect choice for families with small children. Significant ist also islet Prozid which is due to its beauty listed among the five most beautiful beaches on Adriatic. On the northern side of the island are located Bili Boci, and that are the beaches made of white rocks. Accommodation is offered in modern hotels, villas, apartments and family rooms. As one of the most famous hotels should be mentioned the hotel Korkyra, which has four stars, and its modern rooms are containing a double bed, LCD TV, internet, air conditioning. Apart from this hotel famous is also Poseidon Hotel with 3 stars located in Vela Luka. It is located right on the coast, and is only one kilometer from the city center away. It offers modern rooms with TV, satellite TV and air conditioning. Tourists at the hotel can relax on the hotel terrace and the rooms offer beautiful views of the crystal clear waters.
