Sv.Nedjelja or as the locals call it Svijeta Nedilja is located in the south of the island Hvar to which it administratively belongs . Nearby are two low islets with a lighthouse . Patroness of Sv. Nedelja is Gospa od Centure that keeps the village from all adversity , and the feast of Gospe whose statue is located in the same named church is on August 28 . A procession around the village , and the Mass and other liturgical activities carried out by all the priests of the island are taking place at same day. Well known is evening party in the town square in honor of this procession . This famous place was under attack during Serbian aggression , and because of that it lost many residents . During the summer months, the number of residents is increased by about 200 % due to rush of foreign and domestic tourists . In the distant past, the Sv.Nedjelja could only be reached through the field . Later has been made tunnel Zavala - Pitva, which was the only connection with the rest of the isl...and. It should be noted that there is also a gravel road that connects the Sv.Nedjelja and bay Dubovica . The inhabitants are mostly engaged in fishing , olive oil and wine and well known is planting of lavender and rosemary . Yet tourism is most developed and brings the most revenue.
Even in the winter months, this small town has tourists, precisely because the village is located at the foot of the peak of Sv. Nikola, and tourists come to perform many sports and recreational activities such as hiking and rock climbing. The village has about 150 inhabitants, and accommodation is offered in private houses and apartments. Also known is cave which is located above the Sv. Nedelje, and dating back to the Neolithic period. In this cave has been built abbey and small church from the 15th century by the Augustinian convent. The monastery was abandoned in 1787., but the church was used until the 1823. Today only a few remains of monastery are preserved, but the church is completely preserved. Deep blue sea and beautiful beaches in the rich greenery each year attract tourists from various countries who are simply delighted by this small, but pleasant place.
