Community Bol is located on the south side of the island Brač in the Split - Dalmatia district. It is one of the most famous Croatian tourist destinations. It was named after the Latin word " Vallum", which means the "entrenchment". World famous beach Zlatni rat is a symbol of the Bol. According to the last census in the municipality had 1661 inhabitants in two villages. With its 394.6 square kilometers, is Brač the most spacious of the islands in Dalmatia. It consists of twenty places including the famous Bol. It is also known as the oldest city on the coast. Above of Bol is located mountain Bolska Kruna. There is located llyric fortress and Vidova Gora. Island of Brac is inhabited since prehistoric times, and the main agricultural activity was animal husbandry. The island was inhibited by indo-european Ilirs which were more active in farming than in husbandry. Ante Vidošević is known as the pioneer of the tourism in Bol. He converted in 1927. an apartment building into a hostel, the already in the following year welcomed its first guests. It had a bar of the third category, a kitchen and a restaurant, with a small garden and four bedrooms on the upper floor. With increased capacity in the years it was transformed into a guest house. Some households followed which resulted in the opening of several restaurants. Dominican monastery also joined and offered to the the visitors a combination of tranquillity and nature in complete relaxation. Many shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, discos and other facilities transformed the tourism in Bol into what it is today, Mecca of the Croatian Adriatic.
