Žrnovo is located in the eastern part of the island Korčula. Below Žrnovo is located port and Žrnovska plateau that contains many fields, valleys and mounds should also be mentioned. It is located 4 kilometers from the city and relies on the very city for product sales and population employment. Zrnovo was first mentioned in 1307th, and is considered to be inhabited from as far back as prehistoric times. Evidence for this is found in Jakasova cave which is located above the bay Rasohatica. Due to the fact that here was difficult to cultivate the land, the residents had to be very resourceful in their work in the field, at sea and in livestock. Over the years Zrnovo suffered many pirates and barbaric attacks, and also there were many diseases that have devastated place. At the time, in particular has been developed a prayer to the Holy Rok, defender of many infectious diseases. Many residents have moved out because of these situations in order to avoid transmission of plague. Prior ...to the formation of today's Korcula, Zrnovo was main city in this part of the island, including both land and sea. In order to ensure the safety of life, the sea has been often monitored. And the villagers were very good at that task. It is believed that this places name is derived from the Latin adjective cotiarna, but historians over the years have subsequently decided that the name of Žrnovo is not bound to stoniness than to the steepness of the area towards Banja. Latin it is called cerna. Zrnovo has not many population, but during the summer months, tourists, mostly older, are coming back because of the greenery and beautiful nature that fascinates them again. Accommodation is mostly to be found in family rooms and houses, and locals with its hospitality gladly receive new tourists and with pleasure tell about the past of this village on the island of Korcula.
