A little mountain village Vrisnik is located in the center of the island, and is part of Jelsa community . At the top of the mountain lies the Church of Sv. Ante in front of which is a double row of cypress trees from the 17th century . Feast of Sv. Ante Opata is celebrated on 17th of January, it lasts until the early morning hours with folk festivities and dances . Vrisnik name derives from the name of heather which is the name for a type of herb that grows on the island. It is located 2 km south of Svirač and Vrbanja , 3 kilometers north of Ivan Dolac , and two km west of Pitava . 1991.the village was downsized through the separation of Humac in an independent settlement and in the 1857th village Vrisnik also called Vrisnić . On the hill there is the parish church of Sv. Ante Opata and from the church square there is a beautiful view of the nearby villages and vineyards and olive groves and beautiful fields of lavender, which leaves you with the impression that you will long rememb...er . There lies also the church of Sv. Rok and in close vincinity is located the church of Sv. Doroteja. It should be noted that the highlight of this peaceful and beautiful place is a method of construction where the dry stone wall forms a space for the construction of houses, courtyards and gardens. Above all interesting is group of houses Bojanic connected with small bridges, streets and balconies. Croatian historian and poet Marin Franičević, and his brother Jure Franičević Pločar were born in the village Vrisnik and poet Jure has dedicated a few lines from his poems to his native village. Settlement does not offer a lot of private accommodation and restaurants but if you visit this beautiful little place you certainly take the opportunity to stay in one of the households in Vrisnik where tourism is only just beginning and you will surely feel like friends or relatives with hospitable people.
