Hvar -Vrboska

Vrboska is located on the island Hvar, and it is part of Jelsa . It is situated on the coast of the island Hvar, in the bottom of the valley . The name derives from Vrbanj , because this place is first established as a port Vrbanja , or from the Latin word verboscan meaning wooded bay . Locals have called this place even Varbonska , but over time it took on a new name . Vrboska dates back to ancient 15th century , the most famous and oldest building is the church of Sv. Petar, which was built before the 14th century . Known is also Matija Ivanic , leader of the uprising , which has house in Vrboska. In the year 1512. the place was badly damaged by many wars . Historical center consists of Pjaca, which is located on the south side of the deep bay , which is bounded by cape Glavica. Protector of this place is Sv. Lovro.
