Southern Dalmatia

Southern Dalmatia is the area from the Baćinska jezera located in the northwest, across the Neretva valley to the town of Cavtat and Konavle in southeastern Croatia. This area makes the smallest and the most southern part of the Croatian coast. In the southern Dalmatia the city of Dubrovnik which is the pearl of the Croatian Adriatic stands out. It is important to note that Dubrovnik is on the UNESCO world heritage list, due to its 1436 protected buildings. Dubrovnik has many old churches, palaces and cultural monuments but it also has Stradun, the most famous boulevard in this city. In addition to Dubrovnik in South Dalmatia is significant also Peljesac architecture. Also important are the walls of Ston that connect Mali Ston and Ston, and these are the walls built in order to separate peninsula from the mainland and to protect it.
