Orašac

Orašac is located in Dubrovnik Neretva County, 15 kilometers northwest of Dubrovnik. Legend says that this place is named after the nuts. In the past, this place was shared in two parts, Poljice and Orasac. The first mention of this place happened to be in the 1040th year. The houses were built next to each other in order to have better defense against enemy pirates. Orašac are then called Zahumlje and today locals say that Poljice of Orašac is divided by the flowing water under the bridge. During the war Orasac was destroyed by enemies who burned houses and other parts. July 2 ist the feast of Gospa od Orašca and the parish church has been named after this feast. In the church are placed pictures of Sv.Marija and Sv. Ivan Krstitelj. Residents of the area are mostly engaged in fishing, farming and agriculture, and in the late 80s has been built hotel complex "Dubrovnik Sun Gardens", which suffered an unfortunate fate during the war when it was completely destroyed.
