Pelješac - Trpanj

Trpanj is located on the northwest side of the peninsula Pelješac, which covers 36.70 square kilometers. Back in 1991st place counted 871 inhabitants, whose number has not changed for 10 years. In the past it was the center of Trpanj fishermen who catch fish every day and so provide food for their families. The word Trpanj itself comes from the verb trpjeti (suffer), which means that the villagers of this region have always suffered because mother nature has not given enough fertile land on which they could develop the agricultural industry. However it is considered that the origin of the name is also of Greek origin because of rocks protruding from the sea and are reminiscent of a sickle.
