Mokošica

Mokošica is the Dubrovnik city district, which according to the census of 2011. has about 8,000 inhabitants. This city is the most densely populated district in the Republic of Croatia. From Dubrovnik it is only 7 kilometers away, and from the north and east there are high Dalmatian mountains. Mokosica is named after Mokoš, the patron goddess of women and fertility that comes from Slavic mythology. During the war Mokosica has been very little damaged, especially the new part because there was situated army command. Mokosica contains a large number of villas that date back to the 16th century, and certainly it should be noted that in addition to summer residences here are contained the ruins of the church of Sv. Pankracije. In the Old Mokosica there is a tavern, shipyard, two bars and shops containing everything necessary for life of tourists during the summer months.
