Pelješac - Viganj

Viganj belongs to the Dubrovnik Neretva County and is located in the municipality of Orebic. It was first mentioned in the 1336th in the land register of Republic of Dubrovnik under name Vigel and Vighen. It is believed that this settlement has existed since ancient times, and also is significant the legend of the origin of the name. The most famous legend says that three brothers inhabited this area, whose father was a blacksmith. According to legend he left in legacy the house to the first son, the viganj to the second son and anvil to third son so it can be said that the surrounding towns are named after them. But recently has been discussed if actually in this area existed blacksmith activity. According to the census in 2001. the town had a population of 322 inhabitants that were distributed to 120 households. For the past the Maritime Society "Braca Kovacevic", deserves a special mention.
