Viganj belongs to the Dubrovnik Neretva County and is located in the municipality of Orebic. It was first mentioned in the 1336th in the land register of Republic of Dubrovnik under name Vigel and Vighen. It is believed that this settlement has existed since ancient times, and also is significant the legend of the origin of the name. The most famous legend says that three brothers inhabited this area, whose father was a blacksmith. According to legend he left in legacy the house to the first son, the viganj to the second son and anvil to third son so it can be said that the surrounding towns are named after them. But recently has been discussed if actually in this area existed blacksmith activity. According to the census in 2001. the town had a population of 322 inhabitants that were distributed to 120 households. For the past the Maritime Society "Braca Kovacevic", deserves a special mention. In 1671. it comes to the construction of the Dominican monastery and church Gospe od Rozarija.... Thanks to its geographical position Viganj has a pleasant climate and warm seasons, and the fact that there are 3600 hours of sunshine annually gives it an advantage in the selection of sites for the holidays. The sea temperature is always above 15 degrees, and is particularly visited and a favorite destination for sailors, cyclists, divers and surfers. Due to the proximity of the peak Sv. Ilija it is ideal for hiking and hunters, and rich medicinal flora and fauna is certainly good thing. In this area live pheasants, wild boar and mouflon. In 1936th here was established tourist company, and nearby there is a store that offers tourists everything they need for holidays. Viganj's most famous beach is called Ponta where every year sailing and surfing schools are orginised. It should be noted that the Viganj is full of sandy beaches, and there are two nudist beaches nearby church of Sv. Ivan. During the summer months are organized many parties where local bands perform, and winter tourism is also good developed.
