Ploče belongs to Dubrovnik Neretva County and consists of nine local councils. It is located in the valley of the Neretva River, which connects Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Adriatic Sea. Near Ploče is also located Bačinska lake and a mountain Biokovo. It was first mentioned in a document of the city's Historical Archives in Dubrovnik in 1387th. In 1948th Ploče had 480 inhabitants, and then the population gradually increased. It comes to the construction of primary and secondary schools and it is worth mentioning that in the 1950th it got a new name, Kardeljevo. In 1954th the city again gets old name, and it comes to the development of civil engineering industry, which had a great impact on the harbor, village and the town of Ploce. Than from 1962. untill 1968th year it belonged to the municipality Metkovic, and after that it becomes a separate entity. Over the years the Ploče is being developed into a modern port city that has everything you need for a life. However, because of t...he war it comes to immigration of population. According to data from 2001. Ploce has 6537 inhabitants, of whom 3209 men and 3328 women. Most are the Croats, and it should be noted that most of them are in middle age. Here you can find a kindergarten, two primary schools and high schools. Particular importance is given to the seaport, which is the second largest in the country. This port also connects other activities like transport and logistics, but as you can already notice the conditions for tourism are there but they are of no great importance.
