Ploče belongs to Dubrovnik Neretva County and consists of nine local councils. It is located in the valley of the Neretva River, which connects Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Adriatic Sea. Near Ploče is also located Bačinska lake and a mountain Biokovo. It was first mentioned in a document of the city's Historical Archives in Dubrovnik in 1387th. In 1948th Ploče had 480 inhabitants, and then the population gradually increased. It comes to the construction of primary and secondary schools and it is worth mentioning that in the 1950th it got a new name, Kardeljevo. In 1954th the city again gets old name, and it comes to the development of civil engineering industry, which had a great impact on the harbor, village and the town of Ploce.
