Slano is 37 kilometers from Dubrovnik away, and administratively belongs to the Dubrovnik Neretva County. This area has been inhabited since ancient times of prehistory and antiquity, which is confirmed by numerous archeological findings such as forts and fortresses and Roman military camps. In the 14th century, Slano was merged with the Republic of Dubrovnik, and nearby was located the family's summer home Ohmučevića. Population is engaged in viticulture, olive growing, agriculture, and significant is a planting of tobacco and collecting of aromatic herbs like sage and wormwood. In recent years, comes to the development of tourism. According to the census of 2011. in Slano lived 579 inhabitants most of whom were Catholic. Beautiful Mediterranean vegetation, sandy beaches and favorable climate are just some of the qualities that this place offers to its tourists. Particularly interesting is Slanska cove which is sheltered from the wind and a favorite among sailors and surfers. Touris...ts can also visit the church of Sv. Vlaha which dates back to the 15th century and the church of Sv. Peter from the 13th century. Numerous rocky and sandy beaches attract tourists and young children that their time with pleasure spend playing in the sand. The sea is very clean and enables activities such as sailing, swimming, diving in deep water areas, and those with a sporting spirit can water-ski or rent a jet ski. In addition there is a tennis court and bowling, as well as bicycle rental. Accommodation is offered in different types of apartments, villas and guest houses ,hotels, and car campings. The only hotel in Slano is called Osimne and it offers comfortable accommodation overlooking the beautiful sea, outdoor pool with sea water, a souvenir shop and a hairdresser. It should be noted that the hotel has its own pebble and sand beach. Apart from this hotel known is car camping Baldo who has limited capacity because it receives only 30 people. Still the camp is located in the shade of olive trees, and the fresh air and pleasant wind make the stay enjoyable and peaceful. The camp is most used by bikers and tourists who sleep in tents.
