Kastav - the citadel with nine Towers Kastav is a charming small town in the north of Kvarner-bay. Proximity to Rijeka and Opatija, the major tourist centers, is responsible for a large number of tourists during the whole year. Kastav is a city built on a hill, where the inhabitants of this city have built nine towers which served as a kind of the fortress. To experience Kastav in its full beauty , we must know something about the history of this small town. In the city is located town square quaint called Lokvina. Lokvina square was named after a nature pond that was used to collect rainwater. The legend says that the angry residents Kastavs drowned in this pond  captain Mareli in 1666.as he tried to take a tenth oftheiragricultural harvest.
