The community of Sveti Filip i Jakov is the pearl of Zadar district. A bigger part of the community is located on the mainland whilethe smaller belongs to the island. Taking into account the spatial development concept, it consists of three units: from islands, coast and hinterland. The economic picture of this congregation makes fisheries, agriculture and tourism. The most important activity in the coastal area of the municipality in the warmer months is tourism. Accordingly, Sveti Filip i Jakov, Turanj and Sveti Petar have a number of modern hotels, campsites, apartments, suites and rooms which can be rented. Each visitor has the possibility to try the gastronomic diversity in a number of restaurants. The cultural heritage of the municipality is based on the roots of the Roman Empire, and embrace a moving past which is proven in the church registers from different times.
The Liburnians lived in the territory of the Sveti Filip 1000 BC. The Romans settled down in the first century ...and the Croats came in the seventh century. It is located in the vicinity of the royal Biograd. In the 11. Century in the vicinity of the village Rogovo has been built the church of St Rok. The village named after the church of St. Filip and Jakov which was destroyed in 13.century. The place was first mentioned in the 14. Century as "San Philip e Giacomo di Rogovo", because it was located next to Rogovo , and the village was called Rogovski pristran.
In the 16. century emerged the core of Sveti Filip i Jakov as we know it today. Church of St. Mihovil was mentioned in the 16. Century but it was damaged in the Turkish onslaught and 1707. has been built new church. The new church with bell tower still stands today. Socialist Yugoslavia changed the name of the city to Filip and Jakov. After the Croatian independence Sveti Filip i Jakov again took over its full name. An important cultural sights in Sveti Filip i Jakov are Benedictine Palace on Rogovo, Borelli Park, memorial of the first Croatian president Franjo Tudjman and an archaeological site on the nearby island Frmić.
