Stari Grad

Stari Grad or how it is called Italian Cittavecchia is a town in in split-dalmatia county. The locals call it stori Grod. They call him also Paiz although this name more apply on the narrow, old town center. Sveti Rok is the patron saint of the town and one church in the old town is dedicated to him. This city lies on the western side of the island of Hvar at the bottom of Starogrojski bay. It has been established as ancient Greek city Pharos in the year 384 BC. The stories say it has been founded by Greek settlers from the island of Paros in the Aegean Sea. According to a few assumptions here was an even older llyric settlement in the area around old town. This city has a very developed culture, as well as a very strong history. Music society was founded in 1876. This was written on a commemorative plaque. It also has a theater and cultural center.
