City Nin is a historic Croatian town near the city of Zadar, which is located only 15km away. The old town center lies in a shallow lagoon connected with the mainland by two stone bridges. It is surrounded by long, flat beaches and fields of the salt-pans, where salt is being produced in the in traditional and natural ecological way. Nin is a city since 3000 years and is one of the oldest Croatian imperial cities, permanent or temporary seat of the Croatian kings. It is the first political, religious and cultural center of the medieval Croatia. For these reasons, it is called Nin as the cradle of Croatia.It was founded by the Illyrian tribe LiburnsS in 9. Century B.C. and was called Aenona. The ancient port of the old Nin, in which the touristic zone of Zaton Holiday Resort is located, contains today the remains of the fortress and the ancient city walls and is also one of the largest port areas from this time on the eastern Adriatic Sea. The main complex of the Roman period is a forum with the Capitol in the area where the remains of the largest monumental old temple from the second half of the first century are situated. The temple consists of two parts: the Shrine and the verandah. On the podium of the temple stood monumental staircase whose remains are still visible. The name of the city is carved on the facade of the temple. One of the hallmarks of the city Nin are its beaches, which are often listed as the most beautiful Croatian beaches. The legend says that the first Croatian king Tomislav after the solemn coronation spent his holiday in Nin. The Queen went to a sandy beach in a quiet lagoon where there was healing mud. King Tomislav said once to the queen: "This is the heaven on earth and this is your beach" and since then, the beach is named " Beach of the Queen".The city Nin is composed of six settlements: Grbe, Nin, Ninski stanovi ., Poljica-Brig , Zaton i Žerava with a total population of 2744 inhabitants.
