The most picturesque city - Oprtalj South of the Istrian peninsula is reserved for the small and picturesque town Oprtalj. Oprtalj is located near Medulin. It is located on a hill and that is why it is known as the most picturesque city. In the distant past this city was a kind of fortress. Due to its location and accessibility it was surrounded by walls which have been used for defense against enemies. Today, there are only very few of the old walls, and as a reminder of the old days we will find a city gate. In the vicinity of the gate is located the Venetian loggia and a large plateau which offers the view of the country and to the sea. Churches and chapels are dating from the fifteenth century. In the city there are two original churches which have been preserved to this day. They are decorated with frescoes and have a very valuable historical and cultural mapping.
