Mošćenička Draga – Fishermen's Village
In Primorsko Goranska canton there is a fishing village named Mošćenička Draga. It was named after the medieval city Mošćenica which is situated on a hill overlooking Mošćenička Draga. It also extends through the nature reserve Ucka and is 15 kilometers from Opatija away. The city has less than 500 inhabitants. According to the census of 2011, the municipality has 14 villages and 1535 inhabitants. 90.68 % of them are Croats, 1.43 % Italians and 1.11 % of Slovenians. Most of them are Catholics 86.84 %, 2.02 % are Muslims and 5.73 % are atheists. In this area are have been born many captains and sailors because Moscenicka Draga has a centuries-old tradition of seafaring. In the late 19. Century the inhabitants were gone to the coast to fish, and the city bacame the fishing harbor. Particularly attractive are the villas which are more than a 100 years old.. Today, tourism and hospitality are bit important for the economy of Mošćenička Draga then fishing. Mošćenićka Draga is also called " Pearl of the Kvarner". It has two beautiful large beaches.
A one beach is called Uboka and the other Jelenšćica. A most beautiful Kvarner bay beach is several hundred meters long and is known under the name Sipar. Best part is hidden between the rocks. There is also a nudist beach in Mošćenićka Draga. Tourists can enjoy gravel, sand and rocky beaches. Moscenicka Draga has two hotels, camping, apartments and villas. It has two diving centers, and the tourists have the possibility to sail around the islands . The sea is clean, nature is beautiful. Next to the beach is the pine forest and a long promenade. The city offers a wide variety of events. Fischer nights, the festival and Regatta with traditional boats are held for the Feast of Marina the patron saint of the City.
