Vrbovec

Vrbovec lies to the east of Zagreb County, and consists of 42 villages. Distance from Zagreb is around 32 kilometers if you use A4 motorway and 40 kilometers if you use the old main road. According to the census of 2011. Vrbovec is inhabited by 14,797 people. The patron of the city is Sv.Vid which is celebrated on June 15. Center of Vrbovac is located on a hill, and Vrbovec was first mentioned as a settlement back in 1244. in the charter of Croatian and Hungarian King Bela IV. In the 15th century Vrbovec was a major trading center and the center of many ogranised fairs. 1621st here was born Petar Zrinski, who was Croatian ruler. In the 20th century the city became a cultural center and an important economic part of the county. The inhabitants are mostly engaged in the production of bakery products, meat and meat products, but the most famous is the meat industry PIK which currently employs 1,500 people.
