Virovitica is a city located in northeastern Croatia in Viroviticko Podravska county. The first time the name Virovitica is mentioned in 1234th in the charter of King Coleman as this city has become the center of royal trading. However Virovitica was mentioned in documents from the 13th century under the name Veruche or Verouche, which is considered to be pronounced Verevče. City Day is celebrated on August 16 which is also feast of Sv. Rok. Here in the past settled Paleolithic people who hunted to survive. Illyrian tribes were spread between the Drava and Bilogora. In the sixth century, Avars and Slavs came to this area, and important is the win of the Croats against these tribes. Thanks to its rich history, it is particularly interesting to archaeologists and historians. Here were alternated famous kings like Kolomon II, Stjepan Bánffy and Emerik and Ivan Marczaly. Also known is the castle Pejacevic which was built back in 1804th and is located in the city center. It comes to the development of the timber industry and trade, and to the opening of the theater and because of all these circumstances 1921st year was very significant because Virovitica then was declared the city. It consists of 70 rural settlements with a population of about 50,000 inhabitants and there is a railway line that connects Virovitica with Koprivnica, Zagreb, Čakovac, Varazdin and Osijek. Here is also located sugar mill Viro which is belonging to the youngest sugar mills, and the construction itself began in 1976. while in trial production started in 1980.. In 1991st because of the war it comes to a weakening of production, but this situation improved after the war.
