The city of Sveti Ivan Zelina is located in the northeast of Zagreb County, and in the west it borders with the city of Zagreb and Krapina Zagorje County. It is well connected to other cities, and to the city itself it is necessary a maximum of half an hour drive from Zagreb. According to the census of 2011. town had 15,959 inhabitants. Sveti Ivan Zelina contains 62 villages, and it should be noted that it was first mentioned in the 12th century, namely in the 1185th. City Day is celebrated on 24 June, when the feast of Sv. Ivan Krstitelj, who is also the patron of this city takes place. It comes to organizing a variety of events called Svetoivanjski days which consist of a number of economic, cultural and sporting activities. The inhabitants are engaged in agriculture, which is nowadays the most important industry, and for it are speaking 2,700 farms and 265 grape and wine producers. To the tourists is particularly interesting Zelingrad which is located on the slopes of Medvednica, an...d the exact date of construction is not known, although it was first mentioned in the 1295th. Over the years Zelingrad was rebuilt many times, and this is confirmed by the inscription on the stone slab, located in the city. Particular emphasis is placed on the Church Sveta tri Kralja, which is located on top of a hill, and which was made in the 17th century. The interior of the church is filled with baroque paintings, and to a large expression comes the altar that was built in wooden workshop of the famous Bishop Juraj Branjug. This altar is considered the most beautiful baroque altar made of wood. Foreign tourists can visit the museum, which was founded in the 1988th and located in the city center in a building designed by architect Stjepann Planic. The museum contains material from 14,000 objects in 16 collections. Significant is coin collection with coins from ancient times, and especially noteworthy is ethnographic collection of objects of the inhabitants of this place from the 19th and 20th centuries.
