Slunj is located on the banks of the rivers Korana and Slunjčica and is located in Karlovac County. According to the census of 2011. this town had 5,076 inhabitants, of whom 87.92 percent were Croats, and 10.52 percent Serbs. The town itself was first mentioned in the 12th century, while the old part of the city was under the ownership of dukes Krk -Frankopans, and this data was first mentioned in the 15th century. In late 17th century it comes to restoring and developing of the city in today's Slunj. It is believed that between 1809th-1813th years this town was the easternmost part of the Napoleonic Empire. However, due to the war and the occupation of the city during the war the economy weakens, because most of it was destroyed and damaged. Yet after the war comes to restoration of many houses, apartments and buildings, as well as to the recovery of the economy that continues to this day. The economy is based largely on agriculture, handicrafts and tourism development, but also the ...industry that due to certain predisposition may take hold as much in this area. Thanks to incentives of the city of Slunj, rural economies are beginning to develop production, and certainly it should be noted that apart from agriculture Slunj contains many cultural attractions that can be visited by tourists. Currently is developed transit tourism, but the city Slunj tries to more activate its private accommodations, as the city definitely has a tourist offer that should be visited. One of them is water mill settlement Rastoke and tourist resort Taborište that offers excellent tourist attraction. The city contains primary and secondary school, folk and Open University, and thanks to the development of entrepreneurship, this city has great progress in its goal. It should be noted that here lived Mile Bogović, the first bishop of Gospic-Senj Diocese. Significant is also Dragan Hazler deputy mayor of Slunj who was also president of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in the Diaspora, who during his term of office was responsible for the development Slunja.
