Prelog

Prelog is located in Medjimurje County, and consists of eight villages. It is from the city Cakovec 15 kilometers away and according to the census in 2001., the town had 7,781 inhabitants. The city has been inhabited since the Neolithic period, and for the first time its name is mentioned in 1264th. During the 16th century, it was considered to be the largest populated area between the rivers Drava and Mura, and soon comes to building of a large silk factory and silkworm breeding. During the First and Second World War comes to an economic war, and significant was the 1997th year when Prelog gets the status of the city. Nowadays, it is economic, educational and cultural center of the Donje Međimurje region. It is rich in cultural sites, especially noteworthy is church of Sv. Jacob, which was first mentioned in the 14th century. It consists of three-part altar with figures of saints, and uniqueness of the church make the frescoes painted by Giacomo Barollo.
