Požega is located in Požeško Slavonska County and consists of 31 settlements. City Day is celebrated on March 12, and on the same day is also the feast of St. Teresa Aviljska. Požega has already been mentioned in the Middle Ages, and it is assumed that the Požeški castle has been built in the 11th century. Citizens of Požega now call these hills Stari Grad. Požega was formerly the seat of Croatian Hungarian rulers and the confirmation of the status of a free royal city was lost. But the city still has medieval streets and ancient place, which is a special attraction for foreign tourists. According to the census in 2001 lived in Pozega 28,201 inhabitants, who were mainly engaged in the textile industry, followed by the treatment of wood, and also in the well-known food industry, Zvečevo, that manufactures chocolate, drinks and sweets. Particularly significant is the one-minute film festival, which is organized every year since 1993. during the month of May. Noted events are als...o Dani Dobrice Cesarića as well as the music festival of Slavonia, which takes place in early September. One of the sights that should be mentioned is the church of Sv. Lovro which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This medieval church was converted into the mosque of Sultan Suleiman. The interior is decorated with Baroque altar and frescoes by artists Josip Kraljić. The church of Sv.Duh is dedicated to Sv.Dimitrije and especially notable is its Romanesque-Gothic style, which was very much appreciated at this time. The church tower is famous Gothic fortress, which was built in the 14th century. In 1872. was built a Jewish cemetery above Požega which in the year 1906. received its final form. During the Second World War, these tombs and monuments were damaged and looted. But over the years it comes to the restoration of this cemetery. Of particular interest are the City Museum and the Municipal Theatre in Požega. It should be pointed out that cot of arms of the city is particularly interesting, consisting of a bounded blue shield with three towers above them flying golden eagle.
