Pleternica

Pleternica is located in the southeast of Požeško Slavonska County, and consists of 38 surrounding villages. According to the census of 2011., there were around 11,323 inhabitants. In the distant past in the 1857th year Pleternica had 911 villagers, and today the majority of citizens are Croats (97.14%). This the city is since ancient times inhabited by humans, and known is its Paleolithic site in which have been found the remains of bison, deer, horses and other animals. Throughout the history Pleternica changed owners many times, especially during the Habsburg rule. It is believed that in the 1920th the name of this city was mentioned for the first time. During the reign of Maria Theresa in 1770th was opened the first public school, while in the 1894th was opened the first railway line and stations in this area.
