Otok is located in the Western Srem, and belongs to the Vukovar-Sirmium County. It is 20 kilometers away from the town of Vinkovci and a good traffic location enables connections to other cities. According to the census in 2001. the town had 5,858 inhabitants, of which 99 per centwere Croats of Roman Catholic faith. It is mentioned in the 13th century under name Ottok. It got its name because at the time of rain and flooding it was from all sides surrounded by water, and there is a legend that it got this name because it was surrounded by forests. These areas were dominated by many families, the most famous was the family Alašan, but after their death it comes to selling of this area. Over the years Otok has changed many rulers, and it is certainly necessary to point out that it gets first school in 1772. The emergence of electricity occurred in 1953rd and significant is the establishment of railway and telegraph office. Otok has many natural attractions such as nature parks Virovi, w...hich is protected and includes creek Virovi which is also another natural phenomenon. Because of the fresh air and nature this area contains many native species of animals (birds and fish). Also known is entity Čistina where they are kept many protected animals and indigenous breeds like Black Slavonian pig which because of its resistance to hostile situations is very significant. Of their flesh can be prepared many quality products such as sausages and Kulen, and while we're at Kulen we will mention Otočka Kulenijada where many producers are competing. During the feast is organized a lavish evening meal of known Slavonian cuisine including sausages, black pudding and especially Slavonian plum brandy, where throughout the night you can hear the song of tamburica. In Ilok there are two primary schools and kindergarten and especially noteworthy is mill operating at Equine drive which dates from the 19th century. This is now a cultural heritage and is named Otocka Suvara.
