The city Ogulin is located in north west part of Croatia in Karlovac County at the foot of the mountain Klek, and in its underground there is a river Dobra which the inhabitants of this region are calling "Đulin ponor".It is located in the center of the Croatia, half way between Zagreb and Rijeka, in the tourist area of Plitvice lakes in the east, wooded Gorski Kotar in the west and the northern Adriatic Sea to the south. City Ogulin with its 24 settlements had 15,054 inhabitants according to the 2001 census., and according to the census of 2011 it had only 13,910 inhabitants. Ogulin area bases its development and employment in wood processing in small and medium-sized enterprises in the given rich forest fund (over 80% of the surface), but also on agricultural development and utilization of arable land (about 12% of the area) and plenty of meadows and pastures (about 28% of the area) for the development of animal husbandry. Given the natural beauty of Ogulin region significant are op...portunities for economic development in the tourism industry, which is expected to become increasingly popular. Significant momentum in the development of the economy in recent years give artisans and small entrepreneurs. Memorial to Ogulin is related to the year 1500th and the name of one of the most famous members of family Frankopan, Duke Bernard Frankopan, which after the Turks in 1493. ravaged Modruš built a new fort - castle Ogulin. The name probably derives from the Latin word "ob gula", which means gorge or chasm. With this assumption, a derivative is relating to the abyss of the Dobra River in Ogulin. Already in 1553rd year Ogulin was in the royal hand and to the 1570th it had a crew of only a few soldiers. Ogulin so got garrison before the Sisak and Karlovac.
With the construction of the railway line Zagreb-Rijeka in 1873rd begins demographic and economic development of the city. During the war, from the 1991st to 1995th year, Ogulin area was defended by Ogulin's 143 Brigade of the Croatian Army. Ogulin celebrated its City Day on September 14 on the day of Uzvišenja Sv. Križa.
