Mursko Središće

Mursko Središće is considered the northernmost town in Croatia, located at an altitude of 160 meters. Neighboring municipalities Podturen, Vratišinec, Selnica, Sveti Martin na muri, city of Čakovec and Lendava u Sloveniji are also part of this city. According to the census in 2001. in this region lived 6,548 people. City consists of five villages, and the traffic is very burdened as it is located in close proximity to the border with Slovenia, just a few meters away from the city center. Significant Date is Thursday, 22 March 1997th year when Mursko Središće received city status. This is the oldest settlement in Medjimurje area, and particularly important is the church of Sv. Martin which was first mentioned in the 14th century.
