Lepoglava

Lepoglava is a city in Croatia, located in Varazdin County, and consists of 16 villages. According to the census in 2001. Lepoglava had 8,718 inhabitants. The name of the city was first mentioned in 1399., and the 1400th count Herman of Celje founded the monastery of Sv. Pavle, and it referred to the medieval city on the hill where today stands the church of Sv. Ivan. In Lepoglava have been defended 75 doctoral dissertations (as explored to date) and the Lepoglava rightfully acquired the status of the first Croatian university. Work of Lepoglava Paulines was varied and rich: they are the creators of Croatian books, trainers, consultants, sculptors, artists, promoters of art and culture and they left an indelible mark on the life in Croatia. Above all they shared the fate of the Croatian people - they were great patriots. Among the many friars, many of them deserve to be mentioned and remembered. These are: Hilarion Gašparoti, Nikola Ranger, Ivan Krištalovec, Andrija Egger and others....
