Ilok

Ilok belongs to Vukovar Srijemska County, and is the easternmost town in Croatia. With its rich history it is particularly proud of the construction of monasteries and churches. Under the name Ujlaki the city is mentioned in 1267th. The famous ruler of this place was Nikola Iločki, who gave over the estate to his son Lovro. During the war this city has been damaged and many houses, buildings, and family farms were destroyed. On October 10 was executed the massacre over 25 civilians in Lovas, and it is belived that about 8,000 residents have left the town but those who have chosen to stay were living under occupation by the enemy. According to census in 2001. city had 8,351 inhabitants, and the patron saint is Sv.Ivan Kapistran. Also known is museum of the town of Ilok, which contains rich archaeological and historical material.
