Dugo Selo is located 23 kilometers east of the city of Zagreb and according to the census of 2011. in this area lived 17,466 inhabitants. It belongs to the Zagreb County, and consists of 11 villages. The annual population growth rate is 3.67 percent, and the population density is even 3.5 times higher than the average density of the Zagreb County. Thanks to its favorable location and favorable conditions of life, this city records a positive natural increase of the population and due to its proximity to Zagreb it comes to frequent human habitation. Life in this area is mentioned as far back as in 1209th in deed of donation of Andrija Arpadović, and name of the village was first mentioned in the 16th century, namely in the 1566th. For many years Dugo Selo was a county center, where they were established four municipalities. In 1997th it attained city status and the first train passed through this place in January 4, 1870. It should be noted that in Dugo Selo is situated a monument that was set up in honor of the fallen Croatian soldiers during the war.
