Ðakovo consists of nine villages and is located in Osijek Baranja County in eastern Croatia. According to the census of 2011. in this city lived 30,092 inhabitants. In German, this city was called Diakowar, on Hungarian Djakovar. The city has a rich history and numerous excavations indicate the existence of life since the Neolithic era, and during the Roman era there was a settlement Certissa here, which particularly was attractive to Marcus Aurelius Probus. He was so fascinated by the area that he in 277 have built vineyards here. In the past Ðakovo often changed names so that at some time it was named Dyaco, Dyacow and it is interesting that in the 1536th it was called Jacova. Today's cathedral boasts with its Gothic Romanesque style, and thanks to Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer the construction of the basilica of Sv. Petar began in 1866th. It took even 16 years to build, with the four years of outdoor work, and 12 years work in interior of the cathedral. The cathedral contains... seven altars, 31 sculptures and a beautiful organ. Well known is Theological Seminary, which was opened by Bishop Antun Mandic, and because of his commitment it comes to major economic activities. Paddock Ðakovo should also be mentioned that thanks to the gift of 10 Arabian horses and one stallion started with their hard work. This paddock during the Turks was owned by Pozega rulers and in the 1806th the paddock moves to Ðakovo. However, during the Battle of Mohacs field most of these horses died. It is believed that in the 1813th was established an association of craftsmen, that with its work contributed to the industrial development of the city. Special attractions include the lake Jošava located above the town, and numerous streams and lakes which attract tourists, fishermen and buyers who are eager to fresh air and rest in nature. Popular events are đakovečki vezovi, traditional folklore festival that lasts two weeks and is very essential and important holiday of the area, where the horses decorated with flowers roam the streets, choosing the most beautiful Šokica and most beautiful costumes and moreover, equestrian competitions are to be mentioned.
