Belišće is located in Osijek Baranja County, and it consists of nine settlements. It is located on the right bank of the Drava river, and its geotraffical position is therfore very favorable. According to the census of 2011. this city had 10,825 inhabitants. The majority were Catholics, but there are also Orthodox and members of other faiths. It is often called the city of paper and sport, and it can be said that traces of human life are dating back to prehistoric times. We should also highlight the archaeological remains of settlements dating from the New Stone Age and the Bronze Age. In the past, this area was inhabited by tribes, and Avars, Bulgars and Goths stayed here for longer time. In particular known was sawmill established in the 1884th, which was then the largest in Europe, which eventually leads to an increase in population and the arrival of other citizens in this area. Gutmann palace which was a great achievement in the former time stood in particular out. In 1927th Bel...išće became an independent municipality and it retains this title until the 1955th. In the center of town is located monument fountain that was set up in 1976., and just a year ago has been opened a museum Belišće which contains lots of information and records about the history of this city. Particularly significant is the date of May 1, when the feast day of Sv. Josip Radnik, the patron saint of Belišće takes place. This is also the day of the city. In Belišće is active the amateur theater which was founded in 1957. and every year there are organized Romberg evenings, who composed many songs and famous Beliščanski marš. There is a public library, which has over 21,000 books. The most famous attractions of this city which attracts tourists is the Olympic pool which was built in 1978. During the summer months there are organized famous games on the water with many participants and many competitors from around the country. In Belišće there is a primary school and other district schools are located in the surrounding areas.
