Drašnice is the small coastal village situated on the Makarska Riviera. It is administratively belonging to the municipality Podgora, and is located on the Adriatic Highway. It is situated 12 kilometers away from Makarska, 75 km from Split, and 150 kilometers away from Dubrovnik. Name of Drasnice originates from Garland thorn, which occurs in large quantities in Dalmatia. The place was mentioned for the first time in documents from the 15th century. Nowadays Drasnice counts just over 300 residents, but it should be noted that in the late 19th century in this village lived over 900 residents. Life in this region is known since ancient times, and the remains of the economic and material culture are dating back 8000 years in history. Besides tourism, the locals are engaged in olive growing, fishing and farming. With its 1100 categorized beds in private accommodation Drasnice receive many tourists who are enthusiastic about the many beaches. We should mention something about the history o...f this place. Famous is the church of Sv. Stipan from the 17th century an church of St. Jurije on the Coast (patron of Drašnice) and a small chapel of St. Nikola. Well-preserved stone houses in which have been lived for many years, until the great earthquake that occurred in 1962.are the sight of Drašnice. In the same year began the construction of the Adriatic highway and therefore tourism developed and tourists started to come in increasing numbers. Drašnička Vrulja is very well known with its sources in the sea and a beautiful view of the old settlement of this place which is located under the mountain Biokovo. Known source of water is "Izbitac" and Drašnice was first mentioned as Dračnica. At the center of the resort itself is located a monument to fallen soldiers in World War 2 and along with the monument in 1981. is placed mosaic of the artist Joke Knezevic, who is dedicated to women and their struggle in World War 2.
