Brist is a small town in Split Dalmatia County and it is situated in the south of the Makarska Riviera, between Makarska and Ploce , at the foot of a mountain Biokovo. It is the birthplace of the famous Croatian poet Fra Andrija Kačić Miošić which according to tradition was born in one of the stone houses in this area . He is the author of well known Songbook " Pleasant conversation of Slavic people " this is also the birthplace of some famous personalities of Croatian culture such as Mladen Vež , one of the most important Croatian painter , who donated most of his paintings featuring Brist to monasteries . Brist is a part of the municipality of Gradac and according to the census in 2001. Year had 453 inhabitants . There are 550 registered beds in private rooms and suites. Throughout the length of the village stretches sandy beach with sports terrains and clear blue sea teeming with plankton , shellfish and various types of underwater world . Along with it there is a kilometer lon...g walkway to the neighboring town Podaca and the center of Gradac.
The villagers are mostly engaged in agriculture, fishing, planting of new olive groves but also more recently, in tourism. For the first time this place was mentioned in 1571. It was named after the elm tree. In the old village church of Sveta Margarita has been built in the 15th century. In the apse are placed tombstones of fra Andrija Kačić Miošić. Found tombstones in the old village are dating back to the Bronze and Iron Ages and the significant is medieval tombstone among locals known as the Turkish tomb. Brist is today a quiet center where tourists can rest well, with a wide variety of restaurants offering Dalmatian specialties, prosciutto and good wine. Green scenery and fresh air allow foreign and domestic tourists a quiet vacation away from the noise, traffic and people. Brist does not offer rich content such nocturnal concerts, festivals and a variety of entertainment in bars and discos but you can find everything you look for in a nearby municipality of Gradac.
