Brela

Brela is located in Split and Dalmatia County in the west of the Makarska Riviera. It is autonomous municipality from 1993.year and until that year it was part of Makarska. Brela is first mentioned in 950. year under the name " Beroyllia " in the Greek language in the work of the Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus 'About empire management" The inhabitants of Brela were first mentioned in Latin form " Brolanenses " in 1315. year. There are also many Latin, Italian and Turkish names of this place like Bercla, Brehle, Breglie, Brehlia, Brechlia, Brechglia te Brehgli. Until the 16th century Brela were considered a village . Brela settlement was earlier known as Donja Brela . It is located near the mountain Biokovo and consists of several hamlets , while the village Gornja Brela was located in the Zabiokovlje on the way to Zadvarje and it covers the part of the nature park Biokovo.
