Brela is located in Split and Dalmatia County in the west of the Makarska Riviera. It is autonomous municipality from 1993.year and until that year it was part of Makarska. Brela is first mentioned in 950. year under the name " Beroyllia " in the Greek language in the work of the Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus 'About empire management" The inhabitants of Brela were first mentioned in Latin form " Brolanenses " in 1315. year. There are also many Latin, Italian and Turkish names of this place like Bercla, Brehle, Breglie, Brehlia, Brechlia, Brechglia te Brehgli. Until the 16th century Brela were considered a village . Brela settlement was earlier known as Donja Brela . It is located near the mountain Biokovo and consists of several hamlets , while the village Gornja Brela was located in the Zabiokovlje on the way to Zadvarje and it covers the part of the nature park Biokovo. Brela was first mentioned in Croatian language in 1694. in the will of Nikolas Ursić . This little, pleasant... place shows the richness of nature pure blue sea and 6 km long sandy beach. Beautiful pine forests which are also protected by law, many hiking trails for recreation and beauty of the landscape make it an excellent choice for a holiday with family and friends . Since Brela have a very important role in tourism of Makarska because of its natural resources , it is important to note that tourists often stay enthusiastic . It is important to enumerate a few sights , back in the 1969. in Brela was discovered Silvanus relief. Silvan was fodder God and the deity of the ancient Dalmati most respected and well known is his wife Thana too. This picture of Silvan had to ensure the multiplication of herd and animal health . Part of the relief is sadly lacking but although the preserved upper part of the body does not have too many details this relief is today still part of the private collection of Zvonimir Filipovic . Accommodation is offered in apartments and family rooms that are located near the sea , and many locals are offering various activities such as boat rentals , sailing , jet-skis and other equipment .
